Dr Paul Benneworth, CHEPS, University of Twente
Dr Paul Benneworth is a Senior Researcher at the Center for Higher Education Policy Studies at the University of Twente in the Netherlands. Prior to this post, he worked in a variety of research posts at the University of Newcastle in the United Kingdom, from 2005-2009 as a RCUK Academic Fellow in Territorial Governance of Innovation at the University of Newcastle’s Institute of Policy and Practice. Paul’s research interests focused on the territorial governance of innovation, and in particular the roles played by universities in those networks.
He has been actively involved in research projects exploring the university knowledge valourisation and policies seeking to stimulate and promote that knowledge for societal benefit. He was one of the co-authors of the OECD-IMHE Report Higher education and regions: globally competitive, regionally engaged, and in the UK The regional contribution of higher education. He is currently working with the PASCAL Observatory on developing a benchmarking tool to gauge the regional impacts of higher education.  He has undertaken a large number of research projects for a range of clients exploring the regional role of universities, including for Government Departments (DfES), University Higher Education Associations, (North East England, East of England), the Dutch Technical University (3TU) Federation, regional development agencies and other regional bodies.
