Scotland's Universities and the Economy: Impact, Value and Challenges

A discussion seminar of the Impact initiative and the Overall Impact project

This seminar will present for discussion some of the issues raised in the June edition of the Fraser of Allander Economic Commentary, which highlights higher education and the economy in Scotland. This includes emerging work from the Overall Impact of Higher Education project, which is part of The impact of higher education institutions on regional economies research initiative, as well as other related research on higher education.
 
Topics will include:
 
  • The impact of Scottish HEIs on the demand side of the economy ( Input-Output analysis)
  • Modelling the demographic challenge facing Scottish HEIs ( A Computable General Equilibrium approach)
  • The graduate wage premium and skill impacts of Scottish HEIs
  • Estimating the economic value of the outputs of Scottish HEIs

The event will be chaired by: Professor Peter McGregor , Director of the Fraser of Allander Institute for Research on the Scottish Economy and joint Coordinator of the Impact of Higher Education Institutions Research Initiative.

 There is no fee for participation in this event which is organised by the University of Strathclyde and the Overall Impact project as part of the Impact of Higher Education Institutions on Regional Economies initiative.
